Gothic fonts have comparatively the same stroke weight, and they are sans serif typefaces. If you are wondering what serifs are, they are the cross strokes that can be seen at the ends of a letter’s main strokes. There are different kinds of free gothic fonts, and they are sometimes referred to as block letter or sans serif. Gothic fonts should not be confused with black letter or Old English typefaces.
It was the early type founders in the US who first used the term Gothic. At present, the word is rarely used in English speaking countries although it is still well known in Japan. Gothic fonts may have taken their name from architectural definition, which is a style that is neither Greek nor Roman.
There are literally thousands of free fonts for designers that are available online, gothic fonts included. If you are looking for awesome free fonts in the gothic style, you may find it hard and time consuming. Therefore, I have taken it upon myself to compile a short list of over 25 gothic fonts for your selection.
